History of the Christian Dietz shoe factory

The Christian Dietz shoe factory was founded in 1952 by Christian Dietz. In the early years, the first shoes were made by hand in the cellar of his own home. With a great passion for shoemaking, the company founder laid the foundation for a success story that continues to this day.

The production of flat moccasins began in 1955 and these were very popular early on. In the years that followed, the range was specifically expanded to include a women's comfort shoe collection. This fundamental decision - the combination of comfort, quality and fashion - still characterises the brand's collection today.

The constantly growing sales figures made expansion necessary. As early as 1960, an important milestone was set with the construction of the new company site in Obersimten, thus establishing the future location of the company.

Over time, Christian Dietz's two sons and daughters also joined the company. As a result, all important areas of responsibility within the company were competently staffed, which supported the continuous development of the company.

A significant innovative step was taken in 1975 at the suggestion of the specialised trade: the introduction of the exchangeable footbed. At the same time, the lasts were specifically adapted to orthopaedic requirements and a multi-width system was developed. These innovations were very favourably received by the market and led to further growth for the company.

In order to cope with the increasing price pressure on the market, the decision was made in later years to establish the brand's own production plant in Portugal. Shoes for the brand were manufactured there until 2024, ensuring economically competitive production.

Christian Dietz Schuhfabrik was taken over by Axel Stuppy in 2018. However, the economic consequences of the coronavirus pandemic from 2020 and an increasingly difficult market environment led to structural challenges. As a result, the decision was made to close the company's own plant in Portugal in 2024.

In September 2024, the company was finally re-established under the leadership of the current Managing Director Marco Redling. In the course of this, both the company structures and the collection were consistently adapted to the current market conditions. Chic design, high quality fit and proven comfort remain at the centre of the Christian Dietz brand.

To this day, Christian Dietz Schuhfabrik combines tradition, experience and a contemporary approach - with the clear aim of developing fashionable, comfortable shoes that meet the needs of its customers.
